Somituri Project - Ngazi Licence
Overview
The Ngazi Licence covers an area of 85.80 km2 and is approximately 40 km west of the Somituri Camp (Imbo Licence). On this Licence, during the course of 2012, we delineated numerous gold-in-soil anomalies with strike lengths of up to 5 km. The gold anomalies identified are coincident with areas of alluvial gold that were exploited during the colonial-era.
Historical Activity
From 1943 to 1954 a total of 15 200 oz of gold was recovered from the Mokepa alluvial exploitation Mine. The 15 200 oz of gold were derived from the following sources (RMCA, 2007);
- the Manzinzi River (southeast area of the Ngazi Licence) - 308 oz of gold;
- the Mangope River (central area of the Ngazi Licence) - 1666 oz of gold; and
- the Mokepa River (northwest area of the Licence) - 13 266 oz of gold.
Geology
The 1980 DRC 1:200 000 scale geological map (Bafwasende map sheet) of the Ngayu Greenstone Belt indicates the presence of folded Archaean Kibalian greenstones trending predominantly northeast - southwest. These greenstones are comprised of schists, metasedimentary rocks and banded iron formation (“BIF”) folded into northwest-southeast oriented folds.
Soil Geochemistry
A soil sampling survey was carried out in early 2012 over the entire Licence at a grid spacing of 100 m x 400 m. Gold values obtained in the soil samples, delineated a series of parallel gold-in-soil anomalies, up to 5 km in length. Along strike, towards the southwest of the licence boundary, Loncor, another gold exploration company, intersected 42.50 m grading 2.11 g/t Au in a trench, and a drill hole undercutting the trench returned 38.82 m grading 2.66 g/t Au (Itali Prospect, www.loncor.com, Oct 4, 2012).
